In plain words

Thursday: on this day, let what troubles and clouds your heart be washed away, floated off downstream.

Set aside the idea of many scattered powers to chase. Attach yourself to the One — simple, single, whole.

Inside you, three rivers flow together: knowing, good action, and love. Right there, why not wash your heart clean of its mistakes, gently and fully, and step out fresh?

Let what clouds your heart float away, focus single-heartedly on the One, and wash yourself clean at the meeting-place of knowing, right action, and love — all inside you.
The deeper layer

Let what clouds your heart be washed away, and give your whole heart to the One.

Barihaspat means Thursday. The day is named for Brihaspati, the planet Jupiter. Barihaspat bikhi-aa day-ay bahaa-ay — let bikhi-aa be washed away, floated off downstream. Bikhi-aa is whatever spoils the heart: harmful pulls and attachments.

Teen dayv ayk sang laa-ay — the verse says to leave the teen dayv, the three gods, and hold to the ayk, the One. Kabir makes this move often. It is not disrespect toward anyone's faith. It is a move from many scattered aims to one single-hearted focus on the One.

Teen nadee tah tarikutee maahi — three rivers meet at tarikutee, the meeting point. In India, a place where rivers meet is a famous place to bathe and visit on pilgrimage. Here the three rivers are inside you. Traditional readings name them knowing, right action, and devotion. Ahinis kasmal dhoveh naahi — why not wash your kasmal, your mistakes and faults, there, ahinis, day and night?

Think of three streams running down a hill and joining into one clear river. The holy meeting place has moved inward. The real pilgrimage spot is inside you.

A Question to Sit With

What's something weighing on your heart that you could gently 'wash away' and let go of?
