In plain words

The body — this village we live in — was full of anger and sexual desire. They had taken over.

But then I met with the Holy Saint. And they were broken into pieces — not by me, not by my effort, but by that meeting.

By pre-ordained destiny, I met with the Guru. And I entered into the realm of the Lord's Love.

The forces that own us are not broken by effort — they are broken by meeting someone who carries the light.
The deeper layer

Guru Ram Das opens with radical honesty: the body is not by default a temple. It is full of kaam (desire/lust) and krodh (anger) — two of the five thieves (panj chor) that Gurbani identifies as the forces that pull us away from the oneness.

The turning point is not willpower or discipline. It is a meeting. Meeting the Holy Saint — someone who carries the presence of the oneness — broke those forces. Not the saint's lecture or their rules. Their presence.

And this meeting was "pre-ordained" — written in destiny. It reinforces the teaching of grace: you did not earn the meeting. You were always going to arrive at it.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a person you have met in your life whose presence changed something in you — not through what they said but simply through what they were? What changed?
