O servant Nanak, chant His Glorious Praises. ||4||21||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One is utterly free, utterly carefree.
Servant Nanak, sing His praises.
Take refuge in a One who is utterly free and carefree, and you catch its freedom.
The One needs nothing and worries about nothing. Staying close to such a One, we catch that freedom too.
Vaymuhtaajaa vayparvaahu — the One depends on no one, and has no cares. The soul that takes shelter in the One picks up that same easy freedom, the way you relax when you sit near someone calm.
So Guru Arjan tells himself, as a servant: praise. When the One is that free, praise is the only answer that fits.
A Question to Sit With
What would it feel like to be genuinely carefree — not careless, but free of dread?
