Verse 5 of 5

The Good-Hearted and the One Are Not Separate

ਰਵਿਦਾਸੁ ਭਣੈ ਜੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
ravidaas bhanai jo jaanai so jaan.
Says Ravi Daas, he alone is wise, who knows this:
ਸੰਤ ਅਨੰਤਹਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੪॥੨॥
sant anaNteh antar naahee. ||4||2||
there is no difference between the Saints and the Infinite Lord. ||4||2||

In plain words

Ravi Daas says: the truly wise person understands one thing.

The truly good-hearted and the One are not really separate at all.

The truly good-hearted and the One are not really separate — so being with genuinely good people IS being close to the One.
The deeper layer

This one says the good-hearted and the One are not separate.

Ravi Daas ends with the deepest truth of the shabad. He alone is wise, he says, who knows this: there is no difference between the Saints and the Infinite One.

The truly good-hearted and the One are not really apart. The One fills a truly loving person so fully that being with them is being with the One. That is why good company is so precious and so holy. When you sit with someone whose heart is full of love, you are sitting with the One shining through them. Think of sunlight through a clean window. You see the window, but it is the sun that warms you.

You do not only meet the One in a far-off holy place or in deep meditation. You meet the One in truly good people. The One and real goodness are the same. To love and keep the company of the good-hearted is simply to be close to the One.

A Question to Sit With

How might a truly good, loving person let you glimpse the One shining through them?
