Sikhism·Raag Aasaa·Shabad 158
Verse 4 of 5

There Is No Resting Place but the Guru

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਥਾਉ ॥
gur bin doojaa naahee thaa-o.
Without the Guru, there is no other place of rest.
ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੩॥
gur daataa gur dayvai naa-o. ||3||
The Guru is the Giver, the Guru gives the Name. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Without the Guru, there is no other place to rest.

The Guru is the Giver; the Guru gives the Name.

There is no other resting place than the Guru, who gives the Name.
The deeper layer

The Guru as the only resting place: "without the Guru, there is no other place of rest." Everywhere else is restless; the Guru is where the soul can finally lay its weight down. And the Guru is "the Giver" — specifically, "the Guru gives the Name".

A Question to Sit With

Where do you finally feel you can set your weight down?
