ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜੀਅ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਪਿ ॥
karan kaaran samrath so parabh jee-a daataa aap.
God is the Doer, the All-powerful Cause of causes; He Himself is the Giver of life.
ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਪਿ ॥੨॥
ti-aag sagal si-aanpaa aath pahar parabh jaap. ||2||
So renounce all your cleverness, and meditate on God, twenty-four hours a day. ||2||

God is the Doer, the All-powerful Cause of causes; He Himself is the Giver of life.
So renounce all your cleverness, and meditate on God, day and night.
Since the One is the real Doer, drop the cleverness and simply remember.
Because God is "the Doer, the... Cause of causes," cleverness is pointless — you are not running the show. "Renounce all your cleverness, and meditate" instead. Drop the scheming and rest in the One who actually does everything (cf. Shabad 227).
