In plain words

In just the same way, our short human lives pass on — so it's worth pausing to really take that in.

It takes months to carefully form a body, and yet it can pass in a single moment.

A life is carefully made over long months yet fragile — so treasure it with wonder, and fill it with what matters.
The deeper layer

A life is carefully made and fragile, so treasure it.

Fareed finishes the comparison. Chalay chalanhaar vichaaraa lay-ay mano — just so, human lives pass on; think about this in your mind. Like the swallows and the lightning and the seasons, lives come and go in their rhythm.

Then he adds a striking thought. It takes six months to form the body, but it can break in an instant. Think of the long, patient months of care that go into forming a life. And yet it can end so quickly, the way one wave can wash away a sandcastle that took all afternoon to build.

Fareed says this to deepen our wonder, not to scare us. A life is a precious, carefully made thing. Because it is fragile, it is worth treasuring and spending well. Reflect on this, Fareed says, with care.

A Question to Sit With

Since life is both carefully made and fragile, how would you want to treasure yours?
