In plain words

Meditate on the Lord of the Universe. Cherish the Beloved in your mind.

The Guru says: keep this in your heart. Turn away from others and turn to Him. That is how you will find your Beloved, my friend.

Turn away from the many and toward the One — and the Beloved is found.
The deeper layer

This is the pause line, the center of the shabad. It gives the whole instruction: turn from the many toward the One, and you will find your Beloved.

Gobind gobind kar haan — keep saying Gobind, a name for the One who cares for the whole world. Har har man pi-aar haan — love the One in your mind. Gur kahi-aa so chit Dhar haan — keep what the Guru says in your awareness.

The key step is the turning: an si-o tor fayr haan — break away from others, and turn to Him. Think of a sunflower. It does not chase every light. It turns its face to the sun. Aisay laalan paa-i-o ree sakhee — this is how you find your Beloved, my friend.

A Question to Sit With

What would 'turning toward' the one thing that matters most look like for you?
