Even the Serving Is His Doing

ਜੇਹੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਈਐ ਕਰਣੀ ਭੀ ਸਾਈ ॥

Whatever service the Lord causes us to do, that is just what we do.

He Himself acts; who else should be mentioned? He beholds His own greatness. ||7||

In plain words

Whatever service the Lord sets us to — that is exactly the service we do.

He Himself acts; who else is there to name? He beholds His own greatness.

Even the serving is His doing — which makes the work weightless.
The deeper layer

Even our serving is the One's doing.

Jayhee sayv karaa-ee-ai karnee bhee saa-ee — whatever service the One gives us to do, that is what we do. Even our love and serving happen inside the Hukam, the One's order. They are not a gift we hand over from outside.

This clears away the last hiding place of pride: feeling proud of being the helper. Aap karay kis aakhee-ai — the One does it all; who else is there to name?

Does that make our effort pointless? Not at all. It makes it light. Think of a child helping a parent carry groceries. The parent is really holding the bag. The child still helps, happily, with nothing heavy to carry. Vaykhai vadi-aa-ee — the One looks on at the One's own greatness.

A Question to Sit With

What changes when you do a chore as something given through you, rather than a burden on you?
