The self-willed manmukhs lose and lose, wandering around deluded by doubt.
Blind, they do not remember the Lord — how could they receive the Vision of His Darshan?
This one shows the other side: a person led only by their own wants keeps losing.
A manmukh is someone who follows only their own mind, instead of the Guru. "Manmukh totaa nit hai" — for them there is loss every day. Not because they stop trading. They are trading in doubt, and doubt is the one stock that always goes down.
The second line is about seeing. Darshan means sight — seeing the Beloved. Someone who keeps their eyes shut on purpose cannot receive what only eyes can receive. That is not cruel. It is just how seeing works.
Remembering the One is like opening your eyes. Forget for long enough, and the eyes slowly close. Think of a friend waving at you across the playground while you stare at a phone. They were right there the whole time.
Earlier in this shabad, the Guru said the One is not far away. So the trouble was never distance.
What habit keeps your eyes closed to what is right in front of you?
