anDhee dunee-aa saahib jaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The world is blind; our Lord and Master is All-seeing. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I give myself to the Name of the One.

The world stumbles around as if blind, but the One sees everything, clearly.

The world rushes around half-blind; the One sees everything, clearly.
The deeper layer

This one sets up the contrast the whole shabad, or hymn, is built around.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad, the line the rest turns on. AnDhee dunee-aa saahib jaan — the world is blind, but the Master sees all.

The world can't see what it is doing. It mistakes the busy dance for real life. The One misses nothing. Think of kids bumping around a dark room while someone at the door holds a flashlight.

Naanak naam vitahu kurbaan — Nanak gives himself to the Name. To give yourself to the Name is to borrow those clear eyes.

A Question to Sit With

What might you be rushing past without really seeing?
