Sikhism·Raag Aasaa·Shabad 30
Verse 2 of 5

There Is Nothing to Add: Only the One

ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ॥
saahib mayraa ayko hai.
My Lord and Master is One;
ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ayko hai bhaa-ee ayko hai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He is the One and Only; O Siblings of Destiny, He is the One alone. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My One is one.

Only the One, only the One, only the One.

There is nothing to add to it: only the One.
The deeper layer

The Pause is almost pure repetition — saahib mayraa ayko hai, ayko hai bhaa-ee ayko hai. The threefold insistence is itself the teaching: there is nothing to add to "the One alone." Said to the "Siblings of Destiny," it includes the whole human family in the single recognition.

A Question to Sit With

Why do you think the most important things often need to be said simply, and more than once?
