Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The wise Teacher is like an ocean brimming with jewels. Bathe your heart there and it comes clean.
When wanting, anger, and the 'me-first' feeling settle down like waves going still, you find the One who is gentle to the small and humble.
The verse pictures the Guru as an ocean, a mountain of jewels — an inexhaustible source you can 'bathe' in to become pure. But the real bath isn't water: it's renouncing lust, anger, deceit and letting the waves of ego and greed subside. When the inner water goes still, the reflection appears — deen dayaal, the One merciful to the meek. And the punchline reframes all outward pilgrimage: there is no place of pilgrimage like the Guru — you don't travel to a holy river; the cleansing happens wherever wisdom stills your inner storms.
What helps your inner 'waves' settle when you're stirred up?
