Life — I finally found what it means to truly be alive, through love.
The Name was woven right into my breathing, and my worries and sorrows slipped away. A quiet music rose in me, and my little light was folded gently into the great Light.
Guru Ram Das opens by repeating the word jeevan — life, life — like someone who has just discovered what living really is. And the discovery is quiet and physical: the Name enshrined in the very breath (saas giraas), woven into breathing itself. The verse ends with one of Gurbani's most beautiful images of homecoming: jot samaanee — my light was blended into the Light, a small flame folded into the great fire it came from. To find real life, here, is to remember you were never a separate spark.
When have you felt most fully, wonderfully alive?
