In plain words

When kindness touches a heart, it turns naturally toward the One.

And that love grows best in good company, among others who are turning the same way.

Love for what's good begins as a gift and grows best in good company.
The deeper layer

This is the Shalok (a short couplet) that opens one of the raag's most beloved Chhants — a whole poem that answers one question: how should you love the One? The little opening verse names the two ingredients: grace (love begins as a gift that touches you) and good company (Saadh Sangat, where that love is kept warm and growing). Everything that follows will be a series of pictures — animals and lovers — each showing a different flavor of wholehearted love.

A Question to Sit With

Who helps your best kind of love grow — the people you spend time with?
