When Your Light Blends Into the Great Light

ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪੀਆ ਸੇ ਮਸਤ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਤੂਟੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਫਾਹੇ ॥
jinH pee-aa say masat bha-ay hai tootay banDhan faahay.
Those who drink it in are enraptured; their bonds and shackles are cut away.
ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤਾ ਛੋਡੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਲਾਹੇ ॥੨॥
jotee jot samaanee bheetar taa chhoday maa-i-aa kay laahay. ||2||
When one's light blends into the Divine Light, then the desire for Maya is ended. ||2||

In plain words

Those who drink it are filled with joy, and the chains fall off them.

When your small light blends into the great Light, the endless wanting for things just stops.

When your light blends into the great Light, the endless wanting simply stops.
The deeper layer

When your small light joins the great Light, the endless wanting stops.

Jinh pee-aa say masat bha-ay — those who drink the nectar are filled with joy. Tootay bandhan faahay — their chains and ropes fall away. Being set free here feels like happiness, not like hard work.

How does it happen? Jotee jot samaanee — your light blends into the great Light. Think of a candle carried out into the bright morning sun. Its small flame joins all that light.

Then maa-i-aa kay laahay, the wanting for more and more things, stops. Maya means the shiny pull of the world. The wanting is not forced down. It is simply outgrown. The soul has found what it was really thirsty for.

A Question to Sit With

What wanting in you might quiet down on its own if you found what you were really looking for?
