You Can't Stop the Feelings, but Remembering Settles Peace

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਪੰਚ ਕੋ ਝਗਰਾ ਝਗਰਤ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
kahat kabeer panch ko jhagraa jhagrat janam gavaa-i-aa.
Says Kabir, the five passions argue with me, and in these arguments, my life is wasting away.

The false Maya has bound the whole world, but I have obtained peace, chanting the Name of the Lord. ||3||3||25||

In plain words

Kabir says: the noisy passions keep arguing inside me, and a life can drain away in all that quarreling.

The whole world gets tangled in the glittering pull — but I found real peace, simply by remembering the One.

You can't stop your feelings from ever piping up — but remembering the One settles a peace over the whole inner household.
The deeper layer

This one says the arguing feelings can waste a life, but remembering the One brings peace.

Kabir is honest first. Panch ko jhagraa — the quarrel of the five. The five are the strong passions: lust, anger, greed, clinging, and pride. They argue inside him. A whole life can drain away in that endless bickering.

Then he is hopeful. The false pull of Maya, the grab-and-want feeling, has tied up the whole world. But Kabir says: I found peace by repeating the Name of the Lord.

It is like a group chat that pings all day with fights. You cannot stop every message. But you can stop letting it run your day. The passions will still pipe up. Turn to the One and keep remembering, and a quiet settles over the whole inner house.

A Question to Sit With

When your inner 'arguments' get loud, what helps a real peace settle over you?
