Be the Lotus: Rooted in Water, Never Soaked

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰਹਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

like the lotus in the water, which remains untouched. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those the One joins to itself cannot be crushed by death.

The beloved Gurmukhs stay spotlessly pure —

like the lotus in the water, which the water never wets.

Be like the lotus — rooted in the water, yet never soaked by it.
The deeper layer

The classic lotus image: rooted in muddy water yet untouched by it. The Gurmukh lives fully in the world (the householder again) and is not stained by it — engagement without contamination. And "cannot be crushed by death" is jeevat marnaa: the soul already merged in the One has nothing left for death to take.

A Question to Sit With

How can you be fully part of something without letting it stain you?
