In plain words

Day and night they stumble blind — please, give them Your Light.

They are drowning in the terrifying ocean, crying out in pain.

I give myself to those who chant, hear, and trust the Name; Nanak offers this one prayer — soul and body, all of it is Yours.

The awakened heart prays not just for itself but for everyone still drowning.
The deeper layer

A heart that wakes up to the One starts praying for everyone who is struggling.

Guru Nanak does not pray only for himself. He asks the One to give light to those who stumble blind day and night. Deepak means a lamp. He sees people bha-ojal doobat — drowning in the bha-ojal, the scary ocean of the world — and he cares about them.

Think of a swimmer who has reached the shore. Instead of walking away, they turn back and call out to the ones still in the water. Guru Nanak also honors the people who say, hear and trust the Name. And he gives everything he is: jee-o pind sabh tayrai paas — soul and body, all of it is Yours.

A Question to Sit With

When you find something good, do you turn back to help others find it too?
