Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
It is all for Your sake, my Lord, that they are soaked in love.
Your names are countless and Your forms have no end; no one can count how many beautiful virtues You have.
This one is about why there are so many paths: the One has countless names.
Ta-o kaaran saahibaa rang ratay — it is all for You, Master, that they are soaked in love. All that effort from all those seekers comes from one reason: love for the One.
This is the "rahaa-o," the pause line. It is the center of the shabad.
Tayray naam anaykaa roop anantaa — Your names are many, and Your forms have no end. That is why no single path can hold all of the One.
Think of your grandmother. She is "Grandma" to you, "Mom" to your parent, and a "friend" to her neighbors. Many names, one person, and each name shows a different side of her love. The seekers are many because the One is too big for any one name or form.
Why might one thing need many different names to even begin to describe it?
