In plain words

Let the Guru's Word be the earrings in your mind, and wear tolerance as your patched cloak.

See whatever the One does as good — and you will gain the treasure of natural, effortless union.

The real holy garb is tolerance, and the real practice is calling whatever comes good.
The deeper layer

Guru Nanak tells the yogis that the real holy clothes are worn on the inside.

The Nath yogis were seekers known for their special gear. They wore big earrings and a patched coat. Guru Nanak takes each piece and moves it inward. Gur kaa sabad manai meh mundraa — let the Guru's Word be the earrings in your mind. Khinthaa khimaa — let your patched coat be tolerance, patience with others.

Then he adds the master key. Jo kichh karai bhalaa kar maan-o — whatever the One does, see it as good. The shabad just before this one teaches the same sweet acceptance.

This brings sahj jog. Jog means union, and sahj means natural and easy. It is union that comes gently, not by forcing. Think of falling asleep. The harder you try, the less it comes. When you relax, it simply happens.

A Question to Sit With

What is the difference between looking spiritual and actually being at peace?
