In plain words

Seeing the One face to face is a gift of great good fortune. Through the Guru's Word, you learn to hold the world lightly, without being trapped by it.

There are six great schools of thought spread across the world —

but the Guru's way is deeper than them all, and nothing equals it.

The deepest path isn't the most elaborate one — it's the Guru's way, walked with the world held lightly.
The deeper layer

Guru Amar Das opens his Aasaa with gurmat — the Guru's Way. Where Guru Nanak (Shabad 54) pointed behind the six schools of philosophy to the one Teacher, Amar Das names the Guru's own path as "profound and unequalled" among them. The Shabad brings true detachment (vairaag) — not fleeing the world, but holding it without being held by it.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you can learn only from a good teacher or guide, not from a book?
