Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, devotional love for the Lord is implanted.

In plain words

In the company of the true, full understanding comes; through the Word, love for the One is planted in the heart.

Whoever surrenders to the One's Will is at peace forever.

Says Nanak: such a soul melts into the True One.

Understanding ripens in good company, love gets planted, and surrender brings peace.
The deeper layer

Understanding grows best in good company.

Satsangat mil sabh sojhee paa-ay — joining the true company, full understanding comes. The Sat Sangat is the gathering of good people who remember the One together. Just as a plant grows best in good soil, understanding grows best among good people.

Three things come together here. First is good company. Second is the Guru's Word, which plants love for the One in the heart. Planting is gentle; you cannot force a seed to sprout. Third is bhaanaa mannay, accepting the One's Will. Another shabad puts it as "Your Will is sweet." Accepting it brings peace that lasts, sadaa sukh.

Understanding, love and acceptance, working together, let the seeker melt into the One.

A Question to Sit With

Whose company helps you understand things you couldn't see on your own?
