In plain words

Listening, again and again, to the Ambrosial Word in the heart, the mind comes to delight in it.

Through the Word, the One who cannot be grasped is grasped.

What no mind can figure out, the Word can carry your heart into.
The deeper layer

This one says that what no clever mind can figure out, the Guru's Word can carry you into.

Hirdai sun sun means "listening again and again in the heart." What is heard is Gurbani, the Guru's words. Guru Ram Das calls it amrit, a sweet nectar that brings life. As you keep listening, man bhaa-i-aa, the mind comes to love it.

Then comes the promise. Gurbani har alakh lakhaa-i-aa means "through the Guru's Word, the One who cannot be seen is seen." Alakh means beyond seeing or knowing.

Think of a favorite song. You cannot explain in words why it moves you. But play it, and you feel it all at once. The Word works that way. It does not explain the One. It carries your heart into the One.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you understood by listening deeply, not by being explained to?
