Cleverness and Power Give No Immunity to Illusion

ਐਸਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਿਮੋਹਿਤ ਹੋਏ ॥

Beholding her, all are bewitched:

saaDhik siDh surdayv manukhaa bin saaDhoo sabh Dharohan Dharohay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
the strivers, the Siddhas, the demi-gods, angels and mortals. All, except the Saadhus, are deceived by her deception. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Seeing it, all fall under its spell: seekers, gifted ones, gods, angels and people.

Only the truly devoted are not fooled by its trick.

Cleverness, power, even holiness on the surface give no immunity — only a heart given to the One sees through it.
The deeper layer

This one says that no one is too clever or too powerful to be fooled by Maya.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Maya is the pull of shiny things and clinging. In this line, it tricks almost everyone.

The list is huge. It names strivers, Siddhas (people said to have special powers), gods, angels and ordinary people. All of them fall under its spell. Only the Saadhus, the truly good and devoted, are not fooled.

This keeps us humble. Being famous, holy-looking or powerful does not protect you. Think of a magic trick. Even very smart grown-ups get fooled by it. The trick works on the eyes, not on how clever you are. Only a heart truly given to the One can see through it.

A Question to Sit With

Why might being smart or powerful not protect someone from being fooled?
