In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Listen, O my mind, to the beautiful story that words can't quite tell — the story of the One.

Real riches, wisdom, and peace all come from gently keeping that One in mind.

The deepest, best things — real riches, wisdom, and peace — come from gently keeping what's good in your mind.
The deeper layer

This opens Raag Bairaaree — a small, tender raag, six of whose seven shabads are by Guru Ram Das, all addressed warmly to man — "O my mind." The whole raag is a gentle, repeated coaxing of one's own mind toward remembrance. This shabad's opening (the rahao, the refrain) calls the One's Name akath kathaa — "the Unspoken Speech," the story too deep for words. It promises that everything truly worth having — riches, wisdom, peace — flows from quietly keeping the One in mind. For a child: the deepest, best things come from gently keeping what's good in your mind.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing could you gently keep in your mind today?
