What a day it was, when I finally came home to the One I belong to.
A deep happiness opened up, and the old ache was carried far away.
Peace and calm and lasting joy come from singing, again and again, about what's good.
Keeping close to loving people, I remember the One — and I won't drift and wander anymore.
The One held me close, easy and natural, and the seed planted long ago finally sprouted.
"The One met me — and will never leave me again."
The Chhant ends in homecoming joy — the exact opposite of the falling leaf it began with. Where the leaf drifted "all alone," here the soul is "hugged close in His Loving Embrace." The warning has done its work, and now comes the reward: "total happiness revealed, pain taken far away." The lovely image beej primal... jamiaa — "the seed of my primal destiny has sprouted" — reframes the whole journey: the good was planted long ago and is now, at last, blossoming (a vigaas image, the raag's signature). And the final promise answers the loneliness the Chhant opened with: aap milaaiaa... naa katahoo jaaey — "He Himself met me, and shall never again leave me." For a child: after the serious warning comes the best news of all — the coming-home is real, it lasts, and you are never left alone again.
What does it feel like to finally come home after being away a long time?
