Real peace comes from learning at the feet of what is wise — don't go hunting for it in a hundred other places.
Let good, true words go deep into you, and you'll find the One was living close all along.
The Vaar of Bihaagraa opens with a Shalok of Guru Amar Das (Third Mehl). A Vaar is a long ballad woven from short Shaloks (teaching couplets) and Paurees ("steps" or stanzas addressed to the Creator). The opening lesson is simple and central: gur sevaa te sukh paaeeai, hor thai sukh na khoj — peace comes from serving/learning at the Guru, so "do not search for peace anywhere else." We tend to look for peace in getting more things; the Vaar begins by pointing the other direction — inward, toward wisdom. And it's grace-framed: only those "blessed with His Glance of Grace" obtain the Name.
Where do you go looking for peace when you're upset — and where might you find it instead?
