Set Down the Rules and Simply Love

ਤਜਿ ਭਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਿਖੇਧ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਹੀ ॥
taj bharam karam biDh nikhayDh raam naam layhee.
Abandon your doubts about do's and dont's, and take to the Lord's Name.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਜਨ ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਨੇਹੀ ॥੪॥੫॥
gur parsaad jan kabeer raam kar sanayhee. ||4||5||
By Guru's Grace, O servant Kabir, love the Lord. ||4||5||

In plain words

I can spend forever tangled up in rules — is this allowed, is that forbidden, did I do it exactly right?

So I set the tangle down and choose the simplest thing of all: I just love the One, and let that love guide me. By grace, that is enough.

Set down the endless rules and simply love — that's the whole of it.
The deeper layer

Set down the endless worry about rules, and simply love.

Taj bharam karam biDh nikhayDh raam naam layhee: drop your doubts about biDh and nikhayDh, what is allowed and what is forbidden, and take the One's Name. Think of a kid so busy checking every rule of a game that they never get to play.

Gur parsaad jan kabeer raam kar sanayhee: by gur parsaad, the Guru's grace, Kabir says, love the One. This is Kabir's signature teaching: love above rule-counting.

A Question to Sit With

When has love told you what to do more clearly than any rulebook could?
