Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One who made us is our loving friend, the friend who never leaves.
So why be so proud? This body is only borrowed for a while, and it will pass away.
The Maker is the friend who never leaves, so there is no need to prop ourselves up with pride.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Hamro kartaa raam sanayhee: our Kartaa, the Creator, is our sanayhee, our loving friend. Our safety rests in that friendship, not in things or in the body.
Kaahay ray nar garab karat hahu: why are you so proud? Binas jaa-ay jhoothee dayhee: this body will pass away. Pride is like a balloon. It looks big, but it is mostly air. Namdev gently lets the air out of garab, pride.
What's the difference between real confidence and puffed-up pride?
