Save me, O Merciful Saviour Lord; Nanak is the slave of Your home. ||3||12||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I come to Your shelter; You are my only hope, my companion, my truest friend.

Keep me safe, kind Protector — I belong to Your household.

The One you shelter in is not a distant ruler but your truest friend.
The deeper layer

The One is our shelter, our hope, and our best friend.

The shabad ends by calling the One sajan suhaylay, the friend who brings ease — the best friend. The feeling is warm, not fearful. It is full of shelter, hope, friendship, and belonging. It is like a best friend's house where you are always welcome, day or night.

naanak ghar kay golay — Nanak belongs to Your household. The old words speak of someone who serves in the house. The heart of it is closeness: being part of the family home.

A Question to Sit With

Who is a friend who feels like home, where you always belong?
