Keep the One in Mind and Well-Being Moves In

ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
ga-orhee mehlaa 5.
Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਾਇ ਬਲਾਇ ॥
har simrat tayree jaa-ay balaa-ay.
Remembering the Lord in meditation, your misfortune shall be taken away,
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥
sarab kali-aan vasai man aa-ay. ||1||
and all joy shall come to abide in your mind. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Keep the One in mind, and the trouble that shadows you slips away. In its place, every kind of well-being comes to settle into your heart.

Keep the One in mind, and trouble slips out while well-being moves in to stay.
The deeper layer

Remember the One, and trouble moves out while well-being moves in.

Har simrat tayree jaa-ay balaa-ay — remembering the One, your balaa goes away. Balaa means misfortune, the trouble that follows you around like a shadow. Sarab kali-aan vasai man aa-ay — all kali-aan comes to live in your mind. Kali-aan means well-being, feeling whole.

Notice the two actions. Trouble goes. Well-being comes to stay. It is like opening the curtains in a dark room. You don't have to push the darkness out. The light comes in, and the dark is simply gone.

Remembering the One is what turns the tide from one to the other.

A Question to Sit With

What well-being would you most like to move in and settle into your heart?
