Given the Name to Carry, the Struggles Come Right

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦੀਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥
satgur mantar dee-o har naam.
The True Guru has given me the Mantra of the Lord's Name.
ਇਹ ਆਸਰ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਏ ਕਾਮ ॥੨॥
ih aasar pooran bha-ay kaam. ||2||
By this Support, my affairs have been resolved. ||2||

In plain words

The teacher placed the Name in my heart, like a gift I could always carry.

Leaning on that one support, the things I was struggling with came right.

Given the Name to carry, and leaning on that one support, your struggles come right.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan says the Guru gave him the Name to carry, and with it, his struggles came right.

Satgur mantar dee-o har naam: the True Guru gave the Name as a mantar, a living word to keep close, like a seed. Ih aasar: this support. Pooran bha-ay kaam: by leaning on it, his tasks were completed.

The teaching does not hand you a rule. It gives you a companion to lean on. Think of a walking stick on a steep trail. It doesn't walk for you, but with it you get to the top.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing you can carry with you — a word, an idea — that steadies you anywhere?
