In plain words

The teacher cleared away my pride, my clingy attachments, and my tangled confusion.

Once they were gone, I looked up and saw the One everywhere, spread through everything.

When pride and confusion clear, you see the One was everywhere all along.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan says that when pride and confusion cleared, he saw the One had been everywhere all along.

Three things dissolve. Maan is pride. Moh is clinging. Bharam is confusion. Maan moh kho-ay gur bharam: the Guru took them away. What is left is seeing: paykh naanak pasray paarbarahm, Nanak sees the Supreme One spread everywhere.

This is the Ik Onkar moment: seeing that the One is in all. The oneness was always there. Ego and confusion were only fog hiding it. Think of a foggy morning. The mountain was there the whole time. When the fog lifts, you see it.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you couldn't see clearly until you let go of getting in your own way?
