Keep me safe, my dear Parent, my God.
On my own I feel I have nothing to offer — and every good thing I could ever have belongs to You and comes from You.
This is the center of the shabad: a child's cry of trust to the One.
This line is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Raakh pitaa parabh mayray — "protect me, my Father-God." The bond is family, not fear.
Mohi nirgun sabh gun tayray — "I have no goodness of my own; all good qualities are Yours." This is not putting yourself down. It is coming with open hands. Every good thing in us is a gift flowing from the Source, not a trophy to be proud of.
Think of a little kid running to a parent after a bad dream. They do not bring anything. They just come. The whole shabad is a plea for help against troubles inside, spoken from that safe place.
When you feel small or unsure, who is the person you most trust to keep you safe?
