In plain words

Your Name lifts up anyone, no matter how far they've strayed. It gives peace; it is spotless, calm, and cooling.

Real wisdom, real depth of attention, real greatness — they come from keeping close company and honest conversation with those who love You.

Real wisdom often grows in the simplest place: honest conversation with good people.
The deeper layer

Real wisdom often grows in a simple place: honest talk with good people.

Patit paavan means the One who lifts up anyone, however far they have wandered. No one is left out. Naam... sukh-daa-ee nirmal seetlohee — the Name gives peace. It is spotless, and it is seetal, cool. In Raag Gauree, cool is a favorite word for a mind at rest, like cool water on a hot day.

The last line brings this huge vision down to the kitchen table. Sant tayray si-o gaal galohee — through talking with Your sant, the good people who love You. From that come gi-aan, wisdom, dhi-aan, deep attention, and vadi-aa-ee, true greatness.

The One who fills every world is met through something small and warm: good friends and real conversation.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone whose conversations always leave you a little wiser or calmer?
