In plain words

The One is the essence hidden inside everything — the sweetness at the heart of it all. Whatever you taste, whatever you love, the real flavor underneath it is the same single Source.

The many things people love are all reaching for one single sweetness underneath.
The deeper layer

Whatever people love, the sweetness they are really reaching for is the One.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Sabhhoo ko ras har ho — the One is the ras of all. Ras is a rich word. It means taste, delight, the juice or sap of a thing.

Think of an orange. Its color, its smell, and its peel are all lovely. But the juice inside is what makes it an orange.

The pause line makes its big claim first. After it, the shabad lists the many paths people take. Whatever different people chase, the real sweetness underneath is one. This is the idea of Ik Onkar, "there is One," seen in how people search. There are many flavors, and one Source.

A Question to Sit With

What are the things you love most — and could there be one feeling underneath all of them?
