Disease does not afflict me, nor does the pain of death.

I am liberated, and absorbed into God, who has no form or feature. ||1||

In plain words

Holding forgiveness — that is my real fasting, my good living, my contentment all in one. When I live there, sickness of the heart loses its grip and even the fear of the end can’t touch me. I feel set free, folded into the One who has no shape and no outline.

Forgiveness is the true fast; live there and even fear of the end loses its grip.
The deeper layer

The shabad opens by giving the hermit's words new meaning: khimaa (forgiveness) is the true barat (fast), seel (good conduct) the true discipline, santokh (contentment) the true wealth. Rog na bi-aapai naa jam dokhaN — disease and the pain of death lose their grip; we keep the liberation and set aside the death-messenger terror for young readers. Roop na raykhaN — the One with no form or feature.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone you could forgive — and how might it feel lighter to let it go?
