When I truly beheld the teaching, I took its instruction to heart. I offered up my mind and my whole self, and searched deep inside. And there I found the true worth of knowing my own soul.
The deepest discovery is to know your own soul, and there to find the One.
Satgur daykhi-aa deekhi-aa leenee — seeing the true Teacher, I received deekhi-aa, instruction. The offering is complete. Man tan arpi-o — I gave mind and body. Antar gat keenee — and I went inward.
The reward is knowing yourself. Gat mit paa-ee aatam cheenee — I recognized my own soul and found its true worth. Aatam means soul.
Think of a treasure map that ends with an arrow pointing back at you. Guru Nanak returns to this again and again. The deepest journey is inward. To know your own soul is to know the One living inside it.
