When the Heart Grows Whole, a Quiet Music Sounds

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜਨੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥

Following the Guru's Teachings, the perfect humble beings meditate on the Lord.

Within their hearts, the unstruck melody vibrates. ||2||

In plain words

Living by the teaching, whole and complete people keep the One in mind. And within their hearts, a music with no player and no strings begins to sound — a quiet melody that was always there.

When the heart grows whole and still, a quiet music that was always there begins to sound.
The deeper layer

When a heart grows whole and quiet, it starts to hear a music that was always there.

Gurmat raam japai jan pooraa — the pooraa person, whole and complete, remembers the One by living the Guru's teaching. Gurmat means the Guru's teaching.

The gift is anhat baajay tooraa. Anhat, or anhad, means "unstruck." It is music no hand plays and no instrument makes. It is a deep harmony inside that rises on its own when the heart is still.

Think of a room full of chatter. When everyone finally goes quiet, you notice the soft hum that was there all along. This music is like that. You do not make it. You hear it once you are still enough. It echoes suniai, deep listening. First wholeness inside, and then this quiet music.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever been so still and peaceful that you noticed a quiet kind of hum inside?
