You Cannot Think Your Way Into Union

ਅਰਧ ਉਰਧ ਕੀ ਸੰਧਿ ਕਿਉ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
araDh uraDh kee sanDh ki-o jaanai.
How can anyone know of the Union between the being below and the Supreme Being above?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੭॥
gurmukh sanDh milai man maanai. ||7||
The Gurmukhs obtain this Union; their minds are reconciliated. ||7||

In plain words

How could anyone, all on their own, know the meeting-point where the small self below joins the vast One above? Turned toward the teaching, that meeting simply happens — and the mind comes home to itself, content.

You cannot think your way into union with the One; turned toward the teaching, it is simply given.
The deeper layer

You cannot think your way into oneness with the One. It is given.

Aradh uradh kee sandh — the joining of the "below," your own small self, and the "above," the endless One. Ki-o jaanai — how could anyone figure that out by being clever? They cannot. It is not a puzzle you solve.

Gurmukh sandh milai — the gurmukh, the one who faces the Guru, receives the joining. Man maanai — the mind is at peace, in tune, content. This is mannai, living from the truth inside, not just believing an idea.

A drop of rain does not work out a math problem to reach the ocean. It simply falls in and becomes the ocean.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you cannot figure out by trying harder, only by relaxing into it?
