When we stay turned only toward ourselves, that inner sense of separateness never goes away.
It lifts once the Word soaks into us and the Name colors us through.
This one says the feeling of being separate lifts when the Name soaks all the way in.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Manmukh sootak kabeh na jaa-ay — for the manmukh, the uncleanness never leaves. A manmukh is someone turned toward their own self instead of the One. The "uncleanness" here is that felt separateness.
Then comes a gentle condition: jichar sabad na bheejai — as long as the Word does not soak in. Bheejai is a wet word. It means drenched, soaked through. So this is not a forever verdict on anyone. It is simply cause and effect. Think of a dry sponge dropped in water. It changes from the inside, not by being scrubbed. In the same way, the "stain" is not scrubbed off from outside. It melts away when the heart is soaked in the One.
What is something that only really changes in you when it soaks all the way into your heart?
