In plain words

Night and day, keep the One of all the worlds close in your heart. Turn toward the teaching, and you find the highest peace there is — a deep, settled ease that nothing outside can shake.

Keep the One close night and day, and you settle into the highest, unshakeable peace.
The deeper layer

Keep the One close all day and all night, and you settle into the deepest peace.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. An-din hirdai japa-o jagdeesaa — an-din means night and day. Hirdai is the heart. Jagdees is the One of all the worlds. So remembering is a way of living, not a chore on a schedule. It is like the steady sound of your own heartbeat, not an alarm that rings once a day.

Gurmukh paava-o param pad sookhaa — the one who faces the Guru reaches param pad, the highest state, and sookh, peace. That peace is the fruit the whole shabad goes on to open up.

A Question to Sit With

What is a thought or presence you'd like to keep with you all day, no matter what happens?
