The Supreme Has No Edge You Could Ever Reach

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥
paarbarahm kaa ant na paar.
There is no end or limitation to the Supreme Lord God.
ਕਉਣੁ ਕਰੈ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
ka-un karai taa kaa beechaar.
Who can embrace His contemplation?
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
kaho naanak jis kirpaa karai.
Says Nanak, when the Lord showers His Mercy,
ਨਿਹਚਲ ਥਾਨੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਤਰੈ ॥੮॥੪॥
nihchal thaan saaDhsang tarai. ||8||4||
the imperishable home is obtained; in the Saadh Sangat, you shall be saved. ||8||4||

In plain words

The Supreme One has no edge and no far shore -- no end you could ever reach. Who could ever measure or fully understand that vastness?

Nanak says: the one grace touches finds the place that never washes away, and in good company, is carried safely across.

The Supreme has no edge you could ever reach; grace, and good company, carry you to the place that lasts.
The deeper layer

This one ends in wonder: the One has no edge anyone could reach, and grace carries us home.

Paarbarahm kaa ant na paar — the Supreme One has no end and no far shore. Paarbarahm means the Supreme, beyond everything. Ka-un karai taa kaa beechaar — who could ever fully think it through? Try counting the stars on a clear night. You run out of counting long before the sky runs out of stars.

The shabad listed everything that ends. Now it admits that the Endless cannot be listed at all.

And the answer is grace. Kaho naanak jis kirpaa karai — Nanak says, the one on whom grace falls. That person finds the nihchal thaan, the place that never washes away. In saaDhsang, good company, they are carried across the same ocean of change the whole shabad described.

A Question to Sit With

How does it feel to know that some things are so vast they can be loved without being fully understood?
