ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਮੁ ॥
gur kai bachan jaagi-aa mayraa karam.
Through the Guru's Word, my good karma has been awakened.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ॥੮॥੮॥
naanak gur bhayti-aa paarbarahm. ||8||8||
O Nanak, meeting with the Guru, I have found the Supreme Lord God. ||8||8||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Because the teaching woke me up, my whole life feels newly alive — as if good fortune stirred awake inside me. Meeting the one who guides from darkness to light, I found the One that was there all along.
Meeting real guidance wakes up the good that was sleeping inside you all along.
The closing verse (||8||8|| — the eighth verse, eighth shabad). Jaagi-aa mayraa karam ("my karma/good fortune awakened") — the dormant good comes alive. Gur bhayti-aa paarbarahm: meeting the Guru IS meeting the Supreme — the human teacher and the ultimate reality are not two. Nanak's closing signature seals the arc that began at ||1||.
