Loving the Good Enough to Serve It Is Its Own Joy

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਜੀਵਾ ॥
gur kaa darsan daykh daykh jeevaa.
Beholding the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan, I live.
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਧੋਇ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਵਾ ॥੧॥
gur kay charan Dho-ay Dho-ay peevaa. ||1||
I wash the Guru's Feet, and drink in this water. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Just seeing my teacher, again and again, makes me feel truly alive. I would gladly do the humblest task for that guidance — even wash the dust from the path — and treasure it like the sweetest water.

Loving something good enough to serve it humbly is its own kind of joy.
The deeper layer

This one says that loving the Guru enough to serve is its own joy.

Gur kaa darsan daykh daykh jeevaa — "seeing the Guru again and again, I live." Darsan is the blessed sight of the teacher. It gives life.

Gur kay charan Dho-ay Dho-ay peevaa — "I wash the Guru's feet and drink that water." This is an old way of saying the deepest, humblest love.

The lowly act is a sign of love without pride. It is not about making yourself small or feeling worthless. It is the joy of serving someone you look up to.

Think of a child who gladly fetches slippers for a grandparent they adore. Nobody made them do it. It just feels good to help someone you love.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a person or place that makes you feel more alive just by being near it?
