When the heart won't let the word settle in, confusion can make a person feel blind to the way forward — dazzled by glitter, unsure which path is real.
How could anyone find the path without the teacher's love to light it? Turning only toward yourself and showing off keeps the road hidden.
But those who serve the One live at ease, forever, resting their attention at the teacher's feet.
The one the One is kind to sings what is good, always. The jewel of the Name is the real treasure of this world — and the teaching lets you understand it for yourself.
Showing off hides the path, but those who serve the One live at ease.
The verse begins with the manmukh, the person facing only themselves. The picture is kind. Their blindness comes from maya kaa bharam, the dazzle of confusion. It is like an illness to heal, not a crime to punish. Aap ganaa-ay means making a show of yourself. That self-importance is exactly what keeps the path hidden. The ego does not get you condemned. It just gets in your own way. Think of someone so busy posing for photos that they never see the view.
Then comes warm rest. Har kay chaakar sadaa suhaylay — the One's servants are always at ease.
The song closes on its brightest picture. Naam ratan jag laahaa — the jewel of the Name is the true profit of a whole life. And gurmukh aap bujhaa-ay — the teaching lets you understand it for yourself, from inside. This verse also closes the set of Guru Amar Das's chhants, his songs of longing, in this raag.
When has trying to look impressive actually gotten in the way of what you really wanted?
