In plain words

Listen, dear friends: freedom from what tangles us comes from the One alone.

Nanak says: the one who comes humbly to the Guru, laying pride at the Guru's feet, finds those very tangles cut loose. Where you bow with an open heart, the knots let go.

Freedom comes from the One — where you come to the Guru humbly and open-hearted, the tangles let go.
The deeper layer

Freedom comes from the One, and the bonds fall away at the Guru's feet.

Yaar meet... saajanhu — "dear friends and companions": a warm call to everyone. Bin har chhootan naahi — without the One, no release from bondage. Tih bandhan katay gur kee charnee paahi — the bonds are cut for the one who comes to the Guru's feet. Falling at the feet, charnee, means coming humbly, laying pride down: humility is the key. The "Yayya" Pauri follows, on effort and grace.

A Question to Sit With

What's the difference between fixing a problem by force and letting it loosen because you softened and asked for help?
