Those who hold the One even as they fall asleep wake with the true Name on their lips.
Rare are the ones in this world who live centered in what is real.
I am amazed by those who hold the true Name close, night and day.
When the One delights their whole mind and body, they are welcomed home.
Nanak speaks the true Name — and the One, ever true, is forever fresh and new.
A Pauri of the Fourth Mehl on continuity of remembrance — the Name held so deeply it carries through sleep itself (sach sutiaa... jaa uthay taa sach chavay). The verse honors how rare (virlay) such steadiness is, without shaming anyone who lacks it. Its most beautiful phrase closes it: sachaa sadaa navay — the true One is "forever brand new." The lasting reality never grows stale or old; every time you turn toward it, it is fresh again, like the first morning light. This is the counter-image to everything that "washes off": what is real does not fade with familiarity — it renews.
Is there something you love that feels new every single time, no matter how often you return to it? What makes it stay fresh?
