The Name is a treasure of pure sweetness — come, gather round and drink it in together, my brothers and sisters.
Remembering it, peace arrives and every thirst is quieted.
Serve the One and follow the teaching, and a deep hunger inside is finally fed.
Every real longing is fulfilled, and a lasting, deathless state is reached.
Only You are as great as You, boundless One — and here I am, in Your shelter.
This Pauri uses the language of thirst and hunger for something no food or drink can reach. Amrit naam niDhaan — the Name as amrit (nectar) and niDhaan (treasure). It is not hoarded; it is shared — mil peevhu bhaa-ee, "meet and drink together." Spiritual nourishment here is communal, not lonely. The phrase amraa pad means the "deathless state," the poise that does not rise and fall with every gain and loss. The closing line is a favorite move in Gurbani: tuDh jayvad toohai — nothing can be compared to the One except the One. When you run out of things to measure the infinite against, all that is left is awe.
What is a "hunger" you have that no snack, game, or gadget ever really fills? Where might it actually be pointing?
